UFE / Fibroid Embolization

PREOP

  • All patients will be seen in clinic
  • Need preoperative MRI of the pelvis with IV contrast
  • IR physician with discuss case with GYN to rule out cancer

SCHEDULING

  • Will need preop authorization from insurance
  • Patients will stay overnight
  • Some patients will need letter to excuse them from work for at least 1 week

OCATION OF THE PROCEDURE

  • Cath lab

PRESCRIPTIONS

  • Percocet 5/325mg take one tablet po q4h prn pain
  • Ibuprofen 600mg – take one tablet po q8h. Start in the morning of the procedure and take for at least 3 days post op
  • Scopolamine patch – apply to the back of the ear the night before the procedure. Change as directed.
  • Colace 250mg po daily – for at least 3 days. Continue while taking narcotics
  • Zofran sublingual 4mg po q8h prn for nauseA

FOLLOW UP

  • Phone call (1-2 days)
  • 1-2 wks Clinic visit: to follow up symptoms
  • 6mo Clinic visit with MRI of the pelvis with IV contrast (gadolinium)
