Superficial biopsy: thyroid and superficial lymph node

PREOP EVALUATION

• Clinc visit is not necessary if case will be done in the hospital.
• Imaging studies must be available for review at the time of the procedure (patient can bring)
• Labs: None

TIMING / BED REST AFTER PROCEDURE

• Outpatient procedure
• 30min

ANTICOAGULATION/ANTIPLATELETS

• Anti-platelet and anti-coagulant medications:  Do not stop.

PREOPERATIVE ORDERS

• No IV for thyroid or superficial biopsy in most cases, unless patient wants sedation.

FOLLOW UP

• Call 1-2 days after procedure.  No long term follow up.
