G Tube or GJ Tube Malfunction, “Fell Out,” or no longer needed

PREOP EVALUATION

  • NO Clinic Visit (except for tube removal – done IN clinic)
  • If tube clogs we will fix it the next day.  If G-J tube, then OK to give water through the gastric port.  If they can’t wait, they need to go to the emergency room
  • If tube was accidentally dislodged (fell out), patient needs to go to emergency room to have a temporary “foley” placed into the tract.  We will schedule next day for exchange for a new tube.
  • If tube needs to be removed, can be done in PAMF clinic

TIMING / BED REST AFTER PROCEDURE

  • None

ANTICOAGULATION/ANTIPLATELETS

  • Anti-platelet and anti-coagulant medications:  Do not stop

LOCATION OF THE PROCEDURE

  • Cath lab

PREOPERATIVE ORDERS

  • No IV
  • No labs

FOLLOW UP

  • Schedule for elective tube change in 3-4 months
