IVC FILTER PLACEMENT

PREOP:

Will do in patients anticoagulated
Preference to room 2-3

Equipment Always Necessary:

Micropuncture
Wholey wire
Filter *
Pen
20ml syringe

Contrast

PREP:

POSITION: Supine
Right IJ is the preferred site
Need US and probe cover
Make sure right IJ is patent
DRAPE: Thyroid drape
Position screens in a place that can be seen
Always do a scout view of the abdomen to confirm patient does not have a filter

Stand by Equipment

40cm KMP catheter
In some cases will leave a triple lumen catheter in place

Dressing:

No dressing - just Dermobond.

PEARLS:

General preference has been the select Jugular, but it is a good idea to confirm case by case
Most times I prefer IJ access
