DIALYSIS ACCESS DECLOT

PREOP:

  • Check the potassium
  • If K+ > 6.5 will likely just place a temporary dialysis catheter

Equipment Always Necessary

  1. US + probe cover
  2. 19g Cook needle
  3. Sheath: 6Fr short brite tip
  4. Wires: Bentson, Soft s-torq
  5. Catheters: KMP 65cm, 10cm Unifuse
  6. 5Fr Fogarty Balloon
  7. Baloons: 7x4 dorado ballon
  8. 4-0 monocryl
  9. DermaBond (R)

 

PREP:

  • Supine position
  • Prep the entire arm - Thyroid drape with arm going through the opening

Stand by Equipment

Dressing:

  • Usually just a Tip-Stop(R)
  • Consider glue 

PEARLS:

  • Most patients will need dialysis the same day in the hospital. 
  • Prefer room 2-3 since they have an extra monitor
