Percutaneous Transhepatic Cholangiography (PTC) +/- Tube Placement

PREOP EVALUATION

  • Clinic Visit if outpatient
  • Needs to review recent (<1 month) ultrasound, CT, or MRI – should already be done, but need to find out if in ECH or PAMF PACS or if outside study.

TIMING / BED REST AFTER PROCEDURE

  • Overnight observation

ANTICOAGULATION/ANTIPLATELETS

  • Anti-platelet medications:  Do not stop
  • Anti-coagulants:  Stop 5 days prior to procedure

LOCATION OF THE PROCEDURE

  • Cath lab

PREOPERATIVE ORDERS

  • IV with NS (Normal Saline) 75ml/hr
  • Labs:  CBC, Chem complete, PT/INR and PTT
  • CHECK WITH IR regarding need for anesthesia support – only if PTC.

FOLLOW UP

  • Call 1-2 days after patient discharged.
  •  Need 1-2 week Clinic follow up with labs (Chem Complete)
  • Schedule for tube change in 3 months
  • If tube falls out or dislodges after 1 month, schedule for replacement 24-48 hours (usually next day)
